Raise me "rivers": Kadysheva announced a remix contest for "Floating Wreath"
Nadezhda Kadysheva, the soloist of the pop folk music ensemble "Golden Ring", has turned out to be a trend among young people: tickets to her upcoming Moscow concerts have been completely sold out, short clips of "Floating Wreath" have been viralized on the Net, and auditions on music venues have skyrocketed (the streaming service "Zvuk " records a sevenfold increase over the last year). On the wave of hype performer launched a remix contest, among the contenders to win - "Wreath" with Modern Talking and rock version of the song. More - in the material "Izvestia".
Floated from "Wreath"
Where are the best parties? Today it is not "at our club", as Timati once sang, but at Nadezhda Kadysheva's concerts. At least, that's the impression created by numerous videos on social networks taken during her performances, where the audience leaps out of their seats and dances selflessly to "The Wreath is Floating". At the November concerts in Moscow Sold Out. The chorus of the song, moreover, got into the trends. Users shoot funny short videos under it with different scenarios, which gain from several tens of thousands to several million views.
As a result - a sudden surge in popularity of the soloist of the pop ensemble "Golden Ring" noted and music streaming. According to "Zvuka", Kadysheva's auditions on the site have grown sevenfold over the year (in October 2024 compared to October 2023). The biggest jump took place last summer - in August, listening grew by 43% compared to July. The average age of the audience is 35 years old. In addition to "Wreath", "Shiroka Reka", "I'm Not a Sorceress", "The Stream Flows" and "Smuglyanka" were in the top among young people.
- The scenario of music consumption has changed in Russia and in the world. Now it is most often learned about from social networks. Bloggers use fragments of tracks in short videos, put them with sound. And this "sound" in social networks is a new form of life of musical culture, - explained to "Izvestia" the general producer of streaming Sergey Baldin. - How exactly does this or that track get into the trends? We have only seven notes, imagine how many hit combinations have been made of them over time. It's getting harder and harder to find such combinations, so it's logical to refer to what's already been done. But the only thing that unites these tracks is positive, fast-paced, life-affirming music.
One such example is the song "Pedro" by Italian singer Rafaella Carr, released back in 1980, which also became popular on the Web. The expert added that Kadysheva's "Wenochok", among other things, fits into the current trend for folk and Russian culture, which has been going on for a long time. Last November, Katya Lel's 20-year-old song "My Marmalade", to which bloggers from different countries shot slavic girl videos, also unexpectedly viralized on social networks. As a result, the track hit the top 3 on Spotify, and Instasamka released its own version of the song. The trend was continued by Tatiana Kurtukova's "Matushka", which rattled in the summer of 2024 and is still in the charts.
- Now we see two trends: one is a surge of interest in the music of perestroika times and the 90s ("Hands Up!" again gathers stadiums, "Laskovy May" is listened to everywhere); the other is the actualization of folk, quasi-folklore stylistics, and often in a rather ludicrous form (a vivid example is "Matushka" by Tatiana Kurtukova, which suddenly topped the charts). Nadezhda Kadysheva's work successfully combines both of these lines. And the slight cringe of her repertoire and image, it seems, only add points to her in the eyes of the modern public. You could call it metamodern, or you could call it a search for cultural identity in the age of Internet memes," said musicologist Sergei Uvarov.
Modern Talking and "Wreath "
On the wave of hype, Nadezhda Kadysheva launched a remix contest on the PromoDJ website. Among the works "Wreath" for every musical taste - rock, drum 'n' bass, dubstep, disco. And one of the authors even fantasized how these folk motifs would sound if Nadezhda and Grigory Kadyshev sang it together with Modern Talking: "You're My Heart, You're My Soul. Lonely...".
There are successful examples of remixes that lead to a revival of popularity of old songs. For some time the first line in the Yandex Music chart was occupied by Leonid Agutin's "Island" arranged by DJ DANI WOO, now it has fallen to the second. By the way, it was in this version that the musical fragment also virussed in social networks. Another example, when young artists together with hitmakers of the past years together release a new version of an old composition. For example, one of the high-profile releases last year was "Bad Girl" performed by Vintage, TRAVMA, SKIDRI, DBRKLXGHT.
- It is important that the collaboration or remix retains the soul of the original, but at the same time was relevant to today's listeners - shared the experience of a young hip-hop artist TRAVMA.- In my case, working on "Bad Girl" showed that such projects help unite generations and expand the artist's audience. This is one of the approaches I used when creating the album "Nocturnal Confessions 2010", where in addition to my songs there is a revork Savicheva and duets with Anya "Vintage" and "Ranetki". The main difficulty is to keep the balance between respecting the original and introducing my own handwriting.
"Izvestia" sent requests to some labels and young performers about whether they want to make a collaboration with Nadezhda Kadysheva, but at the moment no one has announced such plans. Remixes for "Floating Wreath" are accepted until December 15, and the results of the contest are promised to be announced by January 16, 2025. Experts meanwhile predict that in the coming months, another retro track will be in the rivers.
