Farmers from the European Union want to enter the Russian market with their investments, as in the current conditions it is more profitable to produce fur in Russia. This was reported on November 19 by Izvestia TV channel with reference to the National Association of fur farmers.

According to experts, fur production in Europe has collapsed six times since 2013. The industry was negatively affected by the imposition of the green agenda and anti-Russian sanctions that prohibit the export of fur products to the Russian Federation. Due to such a measure, the EU lost its key market - the Russian market.

At the same time, the decline in the industry's performance is a worldwide trend. Thus, in 2013 Russian factories produced more than 2 million skins, and in 2023 - 1.2 thousand. Over the past three years, according to the research service "Contour.Focus", the number of fur manufacturers and companies sellers has decreased by more than a quarter. The number of foreign traders remains minimal. At the end of last year there were only two such companies in Russia.

At the same time, there is no deficit on the domestic market of the country. The quality of Russian fur remains invariably high.

"Well, for example, the best sable fur is purchased in St. Petersburg at the Soyuz fur auction. This is one of the largest and oldest auctions, and the top lots, all mostly the best Barguzin sable are purchased there," said Memet Topuz, a representative of the fur factory in Alushta.

At the end of 2024, Russia will produce 1.1 million skins of natural fur. The annual revenue is estimated at 3 billion rubles, follows from the data of the National Association of fur farmers.

Earlier, on July 2, analysts of the state labeling system told Izvestia that the most expensive fur item bought in Russia in 2023 is an Italian vest made of lynx fur for 100 million rubles. The most expensive piece of mink fur was sold for 15 million rubles in the same period. The average price of fur items bought by Russians in 2023 was Br70.9 thousand.
