Investigators have opened a criminal case over the death of two men when a boat capsized on Segozero in Karelia. The decision taken by the Murmansk investigative department is reported by the Western Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
The tragedy occurred on the night of October 28, 2024. According to investigators, 37-year-old and 48-year-old men went to the water area of the lake on a boat together with an eight-year-old boy and a dog. Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the vessel overturned, all those on board ended up in the water.
According to TV channel "78", the child and the dog were in life jackets, so they were able to get to the shore, where they were found by other people. The boy was taken away by the arriving ambulance, he was hospitalized.
Two men, including the father of the rescued child, did not survive. The IC notes that they "found themselves in conditions incompatible with life".
A criminal case under part 3 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of water transport, causing the death of two persons by negligence") was initiated on the fact of the incident. All circumstances of the tragedy, its causes and conditions are being established.
On July 24 it was reported that a four-year-old boy drowned in Vedlozero in Karelia. The family from the Murmansk region came to the lake on vacation with tents.
