Russians told about their attitude to working in retail trade

Every tenth surveyed resident of Russia would like to work in retail trade, but the majority of respondents do not consider this sphere attractive for work. This is stated in the results of the survey of the Retail Academy and the organizing committee of the Retail Skills championship of retail professions, which were presented to "Izvestia" on November 19.
According to experts, almost 70% of the survey participants prefer to work in retail trade to other spheres. Only 9% of respondents said that they dream to work in retail. Every tenth Russian (11%) noted that he is ready to work in trade on condition of a decent salary. One third of respondents reported willingness to work in retail under certain conditions: for 8% a flexible schedule is important, for 7% - the opportunity to work close to home. Another 6% of participants said that they would choose to work in retail for the sake of socializing with people.
Among the advantages of working in retail, the survey participants named easy employment due to the large number of vacancies (5%) and the lack of work experience requirements (5%).
At the same time, more than a quarter of respondents - 26% - expressed the opinion that working in retail is not prestigious enough and would not want their children to work in retail. Only 17% of respondents generally agree to recommend working in retail to their children: 8% would like their children to work in retail in managerial positions, 5% would recommend this activity because retail will never lose relevance, 4% - because there are many stable and large companies in retail.
"The research of the Retail Academy and the organizing committee of the Retail Skills Championship has shown that against the background of the general shortage of personnel in the country, working in retail is still a dream of few people. At the level of the whole industry we need united efforts to increase people's interest in retail and the prestige of trade as an employer. We need to raise our competitiveness among other industries," said Alexei Filatov, founder of the Retail Academy.
He suggested that one of such measures could be a system of nationwide competitions for employees of trade professions, which would create benchmarks of performance in retail and introduce a system of recognition and awarding of the best representatives of the profession nationwide.
Earlier on November 19, it was reported that the majority of surveyed Russians (85%), who work from home for more than five years, do not want to return to the office. This was found out by analysts "Contur.Tolka". At the same time, 40% of respondents said that their productivity does not fall with this format of work.
