Politico pointed out the fear and reluctance of G20 attendees to mention Trump's name

Participants of the G20 summit in Brazil are trying not to mention in public the name of Donald Trump, the next president-elect of the United States. This was reported by the newspaper Politico on November 19.
"Despite the fact that Trump's re-election is important for the meeting in Rio de Janeiro, no one wants to discuss the president-elect. <...> World leaders <...> in many cases are not willing to talk openly about what they think of Trump," the article said.
Having analyzed the speeches of the heads of state present at the summit, the media outlet notes that Trump's name was never mentioned "by any of the Brazilian ministers and officials" during the press conferences. Nor was he mentioned by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva or French leader Emmanuel Macron.
Current U.S. President Joe Biden has also remained silent about his successor. Direct questions from reporters about Trump's election victory and his impending second term, the US leader ignored, the media outlet noted. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer "tried his best not to criticize an ally" when he was asked about the Trump team's criticism of Ukraine 's support. However, even if the newly elected US leader was not discussed publicly, his "presence was felt by everyone even behind the scenes."
"Trump is signaling that he will play hardball on the international stage to advance American interests and once again undo the progress made under Biden in reaching new global climate agreements, as well as integration and further cooperation with allies and partners," the newspaper pointed out.
Earlier in the day, the Financial Times pointed out that the G20 countries had made it clear in a declaration following the Rio de Janeiro summit that their support for Ukraine was declining. According to the newspaper, some European delegations wanted to include a paragraph condemning Russia in the text, but refused to do so for fear of disrupting the adoption of the document.
The G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro is taking place from November 18 to 19, and Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In the already adopted final declaration, the participants of the meeting welcomed all constructive initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Bloomberg reported that French leader Macron independently sought out Lavrov at the summit and shook his hand.
Meanwhile, former Pennsylvania Senator Bruce Marks said on November 19 that the still-active White House chief Biden wants to make it harder for President-elect Trump to negotiate with Russian leader Vladimir Putin by authorizing Ukraine to carry long-range weapons strikes deep into the Russian state. However, Marks also pointed out that Russia cannot be pushed into negotiations through threats.
Before that, on November 14, Trump promised to "work very hard" to end the Ukrainian conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said that Russia would wait for proposals in this regard and was ready to consider them.
The election of the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 50.0% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 48.3%. Speaking to supporters, the Republican said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
