November 20 is Transport Workers' Day in Russia. The new holiday appeared four years ago and is designed to emphasize the importance of all transport professions for the country's economy. Today in the country there are more than 400 industries related to transport, where about 4 million people work. The initiative to create a single holiday was initiated by the representatives of transportation professions themselves. Subsequently, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to establish such a day.

The Day of Transport Worker is celebrated on the same date starting from 2020. The date of November 20 was not chosen by chance. It is timed to the day of foundation of the unified transport department and transport education in Russia, which appeared by order of Emperor Alexander I in 1809.

Every year on this day congratulate workers of civil aviation, railway and water transport, as well as specialists whose work is related to road transport.

At the same time, there are narrow professional holidays in Russia, when workers of different types of transport are honored. For example, Railroader's Day, Motorist's Day, Civil Aviation Worker's Day, Maritime and River Fleet Workers' Day.
