Peskov names condition for dialog with US under Trump on peace in Ukraine

A peaceful dialog between Russia and the USA on the situation in Ukraine will be possible if Republican Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, shows willingness to listen to Moscow's arguments and understand the causes of the conflict. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on November 19.
"If he tries to promote peace, if he shows willingness to listen to our concerns, to understand the reasons why Russia acts this way, then a basis for peace can be created," the Kremlin spokesman said at the meeting "New Opportunities for Cooperation between Indian and Russian Media: strengthening ties between the peoples of India and Russia."
At the same time, Peskov noted that on the campaign trail, Trump had talked about peace and not confrontation with Russia.
Earlier in the day, Peskov said that Moscow was open to normalizing relations with the US, but Washington should take retaliatory actions. He also emphasized that it was not the Russian Federation that started the sanctions race.
Before that, on November 14, Trump promised to "work very hard" to end the Ukrainian conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that the Russian Federation will wait for proposals in this regard and is ready to consider them.
The election of the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 50.0% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 48.3%. Speaking to supporters, the Republican said that his goal as head of state considers the end of military conflicts in the world.
