Russians spent a record amount on new cars
In October 2024, the financial capacity of the automotive market for the first time crossed the mark of half a trillion rubles, setting a new record. This was reported on November 19 by the analytical agency Avtostat based on the results of a joint study with Gazprombank Auto Leasing. Experts explained the record spending by the high volume of sales of new cars in October and their prices.
In mid-autumn, Russians spent 542.4 billion rubles to buy new cars, which is 59.5% higher than a year ago. This figure was also 14.3% higher than a month earlier. The previous maximum in terms of spending was recorded in March of this year (Br496.2 billion).
According to analysts' calculations, the share of premium cars in the structure of financial capacity for the month increased from 22.7% (in September) to 24% (in October).
The most money is still spent on buying Chinese cars, but their share is falling. In October, Russians spent 334.8 billion rubles to buy Chinese cars (7.7% more than a month earlier). At the same time, spending on the purchase of cars of other brands grew noticeably stronger, and the share of the "Chinese" decreased from 65.5% (in September) to 61.7% (in October). The largest segments in the Russian car market remain SUV and B.
Earlier in the day it was reported that in October 2024 in Russia set a record for sales of new passenger cars of Chinese brands in a month. A total of 98.2 thousand new passenger cars of brands from China were sold in mid-autumn. The previous maximum was noted a month earlier, in September, when 93.2 thousand such cars were sold.
The day before it became known that those Russians who already have such a car are ready to buy a Chinese brand car more often than others. This statement was made by 70% of respondents. According to the results of the study, on average among car owners the level of readiness to buy a car made in China is 34%.
