Expert says benefits of separate funding for blood cancer treatment

Separate financing of blood cancer treatment will allow doctors to use a larger arsenal of drugs and increase the availability of drug therapy with innovative means for patients. This was stated to Izvestia on November 19 by the president of the All-Russian Society of Oncohematology "Sodezhdenie" Lilia Matveeva Lilia Matveeva.

"Will a separate project be created or will the percentage of funding going to the treatment of oncohematology patients within the framework of the fedproject "Fighting cancer" be specified? In any case, it will allow to increase funding for the treatment of such diseases, use a larger arsenal of drugs for doctors and increase the availability of drug therapy with innovative drugs for patients," she said.

The prevalence of oncohematologic diseases, Matveeva recalled, for 2023 amounted to almost 284 thousand people.

On November 18, "Izvestia" learned that patients with blood cancer appealed to the Ministry of Health and OMC with a request to put oncohematology in a separate section with its own funding. In the Ministry of Health noted that the resolution has not yet received. The ministry specified that in recent years the country has made a qualitative breakthrough in the treatment of oncologic diseases.
