The Russian government plans to ban cryptocurrency mining in three Russian regions during the fall-winter heating period until 2031. This is reported on Tuesday, November 19, on the website of the parvizhdelstvo following a meeting of the commission on the development of the electric power industry.

"The specified ban is planned to be introduced on the territory of the entire Irkutsk region, parts of the Republic of Buryatia and Transbaikal Territory until 2031 in the fall-winter heating period," - stated in the message.

To introduce a ban on mining for the same period is proposed in 10 regions of the Russian Federation - in Ingushetia, Dagestan, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR), the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), as well as in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.

Earlier, on November 12, the press service of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation told Izvestia that changes in the taxation of digital currency mining and cryptocurrency transactions are expected to take effect from 2025.

In July, Oleg Ogienko, deputy general director for communications at BitRiver, noted in a conversation with Izvestia that the introduction of mining into the legal field will help the development of the IT sphere and create jobs. In addition, legislative measures will help to fight gray miners who create energy shortages in some regions.
