China and Russia should strengthen BRICS and the influence of the Global South to play a significant role in a multipolar world. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this on October 19 during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Rio de Janeiro.

"China and Russia should work with BRICS partners to implement the outcomes of the BRICS summit in Kazan, make the BRICS mechanism bigger and stronger, strengthen the influence of the Global South and play a greater role in a multipolar world," the Chinese Foreign Ministry website quoted him as saying.

Wang Yi also emphasized that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Chinese diplomatic relations. The leader emphasized the high level of partnership between the countries and expressed China's readiness to continue strengthening cooperation.

"China is ready, together with Russia, to further strengthen cooperation and pairing, to help give a new impetus to the comprehensive strategic interaction between Russia and China," the minister specified.

In addition, Wang Yi noted that next year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II. According to him, this date should also bring the countries closer together.

"China and Russia should jointly organize commemorative events, resolutely defend the outcome of the victory in World War II, international justice and impartiality," Wang Yi summarized.

During the meeting, Sergey Lavrov, in turn, noted the unprecedented level of development of the countries' partnership. He specified that the model of relations between the countries is very attractive for other states, which is manifested in the BRICS activities. The Minister also expressed his desire to cooperate with China on other platforms.

Before that, on October 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Russian-Chinese interaction one of the key factors of stability in the world. The leader emphasized that many people share this position.

The G20 summit (G20) is taking place on November 18-19 in the capital of Brazil. It is dedicated to "building a just world and a sustainable planet".
