Western politicians, having failed to "make a circus" with the organization of a joint photo at the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Rio de Janeiro, have decided simply not to appear in it. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on November 19, commenting on the absence of US President Joe Biden in the photo.

As Bloomberg previously reported, the US authorities explained Biden's absence by logistical problems that made the President late. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni were also absent from the photo.

"The American delegation clarified: it was not because of Sergei Lavrov, but because of logistical problems. That's what it's called now - remember. Biden has problems not with what you thought, but with logistics," Zakharova wrote in her Telegram-channel.

She also recalled the case at the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Skopje in 2023, when the photo was taken at night, even before Lavrov arrived. Zakharova called the incident a "circus".

"Know how, of course, Sergei Viktorovich knows how to cause a stir with his presence," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman summarized.

Earlier, on November 18, Joe Biden did not walk the red carpet at the G20 summit, as other leaders did, but chose his own way. The US President, stepping out of his car, instead of walking past the honor guard, turned aside along with the protocol accompanying him.

The G20 summit (G20) is taking place November 18-19 in the Brazilian capital and will focus on "building a just world and a sustainable planet." The Russian delegation at the summit is headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
