A red-necked grebe, a rare bird listed in the Red Book of Russia, has been spotted in the Stroginskaya floodplain in Moscow. This was reported on Monday, November 18, by the press service of the Moscow Department of the Environment.
The bird was noticed by the citizens and reported its location to the specialists of the department. Ornithologists came to the place and confirmed that in the Strogin floodplain is indeed a red-listed bird, notes the agency of city news "Moscow".
The red-necked grebe is a small waterfowl, usually nests in the north of European Russia, often settles on lakes among the high marshes, RT reports. It stands out by its coloration: its neck and breast are red, its wings are dark, and there is a bright red tuft of feathers between the eyes.
The appearance of this bird in the capital region can be explained by seasonal flights from the north, reports "Moscow 24". Ornithologists note that such cases are rare for the capital, which makes the observation of the red-necked grebe especially valuable, writes Life.ru.
