As of October 2024, the average old-age pension of working Russians amounted to 19.2 thousand rubles. Over the year, it increased by 10% - at the end of September 2023, the payment was at the level of 17.4 thousand rubles. Such data are given in the statistics of the Social Fund ("Izvestia" studied it).

At the same time, the average pension of unemployed Russians for the same period increased by only 7.3% - from 21.8 thousand to 23.4 thousand. Thus, the difference between the payments of the two categories of pensioners amounted to Br4.2 thousand.

Due to the fact that the growth rate of pensions of working people overtakes the dynamics of receipts of non-working people, the gap is gradually narrowing. According to the results of the third quarter of 2023, it was higher by 5% - Br4.4 thousand.

The growth of the average payment to the employed was higher than the forecasted inflation (by the amount of which the pensions of the unemployed were indexed) - 10% against 7.5%. At the same time, according to Rosstat, in October 2024, the increase in prices amounted to 8.5% (annualized, over the past 12 months).

"Payments to working citizens are growing faster than receipts to the unemployed for several reasons. First, each year of work of the pensioner adds points, which subsequently leads to an increase in the amount of support. Second, many elderly Russians quit their jobs and wait for recalculation, and then are reinstated. This tactic also leads to an increase in the amount of payments," explained Alexander Safonov, a professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

Due to the fact that the value of points and salary increases annually, pension payments to new retirees also increase, added Ludmila Ivanova-Shvets, associate professor of the basic department of CCI "Human Resource Management" of Plekhanov Russian Economic University.
