TheUnited States and the United Kingdom are trying with all their might to prevent the adoption of a resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Vassily Nebenzya, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, told on November 18 at a Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

"All these months they have been throwing the entire arsenal of political pressure, manipulations and sometimes threats to prevent the UN Security Council from adopting an unambiguous demand for a ceasefire in Gaza," Nebenzia's words were quoted by the Telegram channel of Russia's UN post office.

In his opinion, tomorrow's Security Council vote will be "the moment of truth for the Anglo-Saxon tandem."

"If it again under far-fetched cynical pretexts denies its support, it will mean one thing: despite all its beautiful and verified speeches and slogans, false concern for the humanitarian needs of the Palestinians, Washington and London openly support and encourage the continuation of Israel's punitive operation," the post representative emphasized.

Nebenzya also noted the principled position of Guyana, which introduced a draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire from the parties. However, he clarified that this decision was "43,000 dead Palestinians late."

Earlier, on November 13, Nebenzya stressed that to end the "bloodshed" in the Middle East, U.S. representatives should stop blocking Security Council decisions to end hostilities. He also announced full Russian support for the draft resolution on Gaza demanding an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages.

Prior to that, on October 28, the Permanent Representative said that the U.S. and a number of other foreign states deliberately provoked a new round of escalation in the Middle East. He called on the state to take responsibly its duties as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and allow the organization to use all the tools at its disposal to stop the conflict.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
