Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that at the summit of the Group of 20 (G20) he will try to convince the allies of the need to grant Ukraine full NATO membership. This was reported by CTV television channel on November 18.

"Trudeau will defend the first pillar of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's "plan to win", pushing allies to grant Ukraine full membership in NATO," - stated in the report of the TV channel.

It is specified that such a decision of Trudeau is connected with information about the authorization of a number of Western countries to strike Ukraine on the territory of the Russian Federation with long-range weapons. The TV channel did not report on what chances the Prime Minister of Canada on the success of the implementation of the idea.

Earlier, on November 14, the former head of the NATO Military Committee, Harald Kuyat, said that Ukraine would not be admitted to NATO because it did not meet the requirements of the alliance and would not be able to strengthen it. He pointed out that the reason for this was that Ukraine did not meet the requirements of Article 10 of the NATO treaty.

On the same day, the International Republican Institute in Ukraine published the results of a poll, according to which support for the country's accession to NATO and the EU among citizens has fallen by 7% in a year and a half. If in February 2023, 82% of respondents supported the course of European integration, in September 2024 - 75%.

Ukraine applied to join NATO in an accelerated manner on September 30, 2022. At the time, Zelensky said that in fact the country is already in the alliance and meets its standards.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
