The State Duma assessed the idea to reduce the working week for parents with many children

The idea to reduce the working week for large families and single parents sounds good in theory, but in practice it is completely unrealizable. This was stated on Monday, November 18, by Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor.

Earlier in the day, the deputy speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov appealed to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova with a proposal to experimentally introduce a four-day work week without reducing income for large families and single parents, reports 360.ru. The idea of the deputy also provides for a possible increase in the working day to nine hours for such employees by agreement with the employer, as specified on the website kp.ru.

Bessarab called this idea utopian, noting that in practice it will face a huge number of difficulties.

"As for individual work schedules, imagine the situation: a three-shift work schedule, that is, 24 is divided into three for eight hours, and someone from many children and singles will stay. Today, by the way, it is forbidden to leave single parents to work overtime. Imagine this: someone is extended to nine hours. It is necessary to change the whole schedule, it is necessary to change the schedule for others involved in such a process," said Bessarab in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

According to the parliamentarian, Russia should follow the path of reducing the working week, for example, to 36 hours for all working citizens, as it is already accepted in many European countries after the voluntary participation of organizations and enterprises in such an experiment.

Earlier, on October 8, it was reported that since the beginning of 2024 in the Moscow region about 1.7 thousand large families have received free land plots. Their area ranges from 10 to 15 hectares. The land can be used for individual housing construction, personal subsidiary farming or for gardening. In lieu of land it is possible to receive a payment of 400 thousand rubles.
