Russia at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro joined the Global Alliance to Fight Hunger and Poverty. This on November 18 follows from the document of the Ministry of Social Development of Brazil.

"List of countries and organizations that joined the alliance: <...> Russian Federation," says the document, which is cited by the Brazilian portal Zero Hora.

There are 81 other countries on the list, including the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), European Union (EU) countries and others. Twenty-four international organizations have also joined the alliance, such as the African Union, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and others. In addition, 31 charitable foundations and non-governmental organizations are also on the list of participants.

In this alliance, countries and organizations will work to accelerate the fight against hunger and poverty around the world by 2030.

Earlier, on July 27, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation reported on the decision of the G20 to create the Global Alliance to Combat Hunger and Poverty. The ministry pointed out that this is one of the main priorities of the Brazilian presidency in the G20.

The Russian delegation at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro was headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived in Brazil for this purpose on November 17. The meeting of the leaders of the world's largest economies is scheduled for November 18-19. The summit is dedicated to "building a just world and a sustainable planet."

Last year, one of the results of the summit talks was the expansion of the G20 membership - the African Union was included there. Experts interviewed by Izvestiya noted that this indicates that the West recognizes the strengthening political and economic influence of the countries of the Global South.
