The word "foodsharing" was added to the dictionary of the Institute of the Russian Language

The orthographic dictionary of the Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language (IRYA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences has added "foodsharing". The new word can be found on the website of the scientific information orthographic academic resource "Akademos" of the IRYA RAS.

The new word was proposed to be included in the dictionary by the charity foundation "Rus Food Bank" together with the media project "Pro Foodshering".

"The word is actively used by experts and in the media, and now it has received official recognition," notes the organization in its group "VKontakte".

Foodshedding is the practice of distributing food, usually with an expiration date, between members of the community with the help of special organizations.

Earlier, on November 1, the English adjective brat became the word of 2024 according to the British Collins Dictionary. This word is defined as "characterized by confidence, independence and hedonistic attitude," according to experts.
