Gastroenterologist lists liver-destroying foods


The liver is responsible for many processes in the body, including acting as a natural filter, removing harmful substances from the body. Consequently, its condition largely depends on what a person eats. On November 19, Valeria Lomova, a gastroenterologist at SM-Clinica, told Izvestia about what products destroy the liver.
She noted that the most negative impact on the organ has alcohol, which destroys liver cells (hepatocytes). Therefore, regular consumption of alcohol threatens such dangerous complications as fibrosis and cirrhosis of the liver.
"One should also be careful with products that are rich in animal fats, as their abundance can also negatively affect the health of the organ. These include, in particular, butter, lard, margarine, sausages, sausages, fatty meat (mutton, pork, duck, goose), pastries, cakes, flour products and fast food", - explained the expert.
According to her, it is necessary to be moderate with fruits, despite their benefits, because excessive fructose can cause fatty degeneration of the liver. More useful in this regard will be unsweetened berries.
"Another risk factor for the development of fatty liver disease is an overabundance of sugar, which raises blood glucose levels. Therefore, it is better not to be fond of various sweets with high sugar content, including carbonated drinks," Lomova warned.
Another group of products she mentioned is canned and semi-finished products. They are characterized by an abundance of salt, preservatives and stabilizers, which can also cause serious damage to the liver.
"Watch your diet, try to make sure it is balanced and consists mainly of healthy foods. And do not forget to regularly undergo preventive examinations, as liver diseases are often asymptomatic," - summarized the gastroenterologist.

According to her, the morning meal can prevent diabetes and obesity. At the same time, the doctor emphasized that everyone's preferences are individual and there is no single useful or harmful breakfast. It is necessary to evaluate the diet as a whole - daily, weekly, monthly. It is important that it remains within the norm in terms of calories and the ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, Kashukh added.
