People with cardiovascular diseases should reconsider their diet and avoid cholesterol-rich foods, Sergey Provatorov, chief researcher of the Federal State Budget Institution "E.I. Chazov Cardiology Research Center" of the Ministry of Health of Russia, chief cardiologist of the Central Federal District, told "Izvestia" on November 22. According to him, the diet allows about 5-10% to reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol in the blood.

The expert recommended consuming less salt. Cooking salt retains fluid in the body, provokes edema and, as a consequence, increases blood pressure, he explained.

"Reduce your intake of animal fat. Fatty foods of animal origin, which include canned meat, pork, fatty poultry, all kinds of offal, sausages, smoked meat and lard, are rich in harmful cholesterol, which is deposited in the blood vessels in the form of plaques. They can disrupt blood flow, including in the vessels that feed the heart itself," - said Provatorov.

The specialist advised to limit the use of caffeine-containing and tonic drinks that excite the cardiovascular and nervous system, as well as to minimize the use of alcohol.

At the same time in the diet should use foods rich in potassium: bananas, grapes, kiwi, prunes, apricots, raisins, rose hips, potatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, apricots and juices from them.

In addition, it is worth adding omega-3 fatty acids to your diet. These useful substances help to reduce cholesterol levels in the body, prevent the process of thrombosis and reduce blood pressure, said the cardiologist. In addition, you should prefer fish to meat, but limit the use of caviar.

However, it should not be forgotten that proper nutrition does not exclude other risk factors for cardiovascular disease. According to the expert, it allows you to reduce the "bad" cholesterol - low-density lipoprotein cholesterol - by 5-10%, but it is important to take into account heredity, bad habits, age and even gender, because all this can contribute to the formation of atherosclerotic deposits.

Moreover, high cholesterol often does not make itself known in any way, so complications can happen suddenly. To prevent this from happening, it is important to check the ratio of "bad" and "good" and monitor the dynamics during the annual physical examination, the doctor stressed.

Earlier, November 15, urologist andrologist of the reproductive health center "SM-Clinica" Artur Bogatyrev told "Izvestia" about what products pose the greatest danger to the kidneys. According to the specialist, people with kidney disease should avoid products containing large amounts of oxalates, such as spinach, nuts, French fries, chips, beets, sorrel, bran and chocolate.
