A cardiologist has claimed heart effects from getting your feet wet in the cold

Soaked feet in the fall and winter is a problem that hardly anyone managed to avoid. Many people do not see it as practically any danger, and for nothing. As Anastasia Fomicheva, a cardiologist at SM-Clinica, told Izvestia on November 19, if you neglect it, you can get serious health problems, including heart problems.
She noted that getting your feet wet is not a direct cause of heart disease. However, it is a way to lower immunity and, as a result, a higher risk of infection with viruses and bacteria. Already these can lead to a disease such as, for example, infective endocarditis, a condition in which the inner lining of the heart becomes inflamed and microorganisms are deposited on the valves.
Overcooling can also lead to the development of such unpleasant pathologies as viral myocarditis or inflammatory cardiomyopathy, emphasized the doctor.
"In addition, wet feet and skin damage in the form of cracks create favorable conditions for the penetration of fungal infection, which is fraught with the development of myocardial inflammation. And vasospasm caused by hypothermia can lead to worsening chronic arterial or venous insufficiency of the legs, causing edema syndrome", - added the cardiologist.
To avoid this, the specialist strongly recommended to be more attentive to your health and keep your feet warm. And if they get wet, change clothes and warm up as soon as possible.
"Remember that it is easier to prevent a disease than to treat it. And health care is largely made up of such seemingly small things that we all face," summarized Fomicheva.
On the eve of November 18, senior lecturer of the Department of Fundamental Medical Disciplines of the State University of Education, pathophysiologist Sergei Stepanov told Izvestia about what to do if your shoes leak and your feet get wet. He warned that it can threaten frostbite, the risk of viral infection. If this happens, you should try to get indoors as soon as possible. There, warm your feet in warm or hot water, dry them and put on warm socks, the pathophysiologist advised.
