Three poachers await trial for illegal catch of salmon for 2.7 million rubles

In the Sakhalin region three residents of the Poronaisk district are awaiting trial in the case of illegal catch of chum and pink salmon for 2.7 million rubles. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.
According to the investigation, in August 2024 in Terpeniya Bay, the men caught 693 fish of the salmon family - chum salmon and pink salmon. At the same time they used a fishing line net, prohibited for the extraction of aquatic bioresources.
The damage, according to the prosecutor's office, exceeded 2.7 million rubles. The accused have already reimbursed it, as well as fully admitted their guilt.
The men are charged under part 3 of article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction of aquatic bioresources, committed on migration routes to spawning grounds with the use of self-propelled transport floating vehicle, prohibited fishing gear, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy with causing particularly large damage").
The case materials have already been transferred to the Poronaysk City Court for consideration on the merits. As SakhalinMedia IA notes, the local residents face up to five years of imprisonment.
