The credibility of the information that US President Joe Biden authorized the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to strike Russian territory with ATACMS missiles should be verified. Grigory Karasin, chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said this on Monday, November 18.

"To begin with, I would lead the conversation that it is necessary to check the reliability of the information disseminated on this matter. Because I am not sure that everything is so precisely and clearly defined, as it is said in some Western media and reprinted in ours," Karasin told Lenta.Ru.

At the same time, the senator noted that if the White House confirms the information, it is a bad step for international stability.

He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin several times outlined a clear position of the country.

"We do not depart from this position and count on common sense still. Because rattling with high-precision and long-range weapons never contributes to mutual trust and international cooperation. This is what we are proceeding from," he added.

According to Karasin, in case the resolution does turn out to be true and is implemented, professionals will sort out the details and prepare some forms of counteraction.

"The world has hard times ahead of it, and first of all it concerns the artificial inflating of the deep crisis in Ukraine," the politician said.

Earlier, on November 17, The New York Times reported that Biden had authorized Ukraine to use US long-range missiles to strike Russia, 360.ru reported. Le Figaro newspaper wrote at the same time that the same decision was made by the French and British authorities, but then removed this information from the article, according to kp.ru. EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrel said afterward that on November 18-19 the issue of lifting restrictions on strikes deep into Russia with European weapons will be discussed.

Commenting on these discussions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Ukraine's possible permission to use U.S. ATACMS missiles for strikes deep inside Russia would be a qualitatively new round of tension, NSN reported. He called Moscow 's position understandable for everyone and recalled the Russian president's warning to the West in this regard.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to carry it out was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
