The C-Lion1 telecommunication cable laid on the bottom of the Baltic Sea between Finland and Germany has broken. This was reported by Ilta-Sanomat on November 18

According to the portal, the C-Lion1 submarine cable is part of the Cinia network. Cinia is a state-owned company that builds fiber-optic networks.

The company informed the media that the cable had been cut. Details are not yet known. The reasons for the incident are being ascertained.

"Customers have been informed and repairs have started," CEO Ari-Jussi Knaapila said, adding that it takes 5-15 days to repair offshore cables.

According to the portal, the C-Lion1 cable was commissioned in 2016. Its length is almost 1,200 kilometers and its depth is about a meter. The cable runs next to the gas pipeline.

Earlier, on November 13, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Baltic Sea will never turn into an internal NATO body of water, despite the West's wishes. She added that the Baltic Sea will always be a common space for all countries of the region without exception. The diplomat also emphasized that the Russian Foreign Ministry continues systematic work in the Baltic Sea.

Prior to that, on November 11, Nikolai Patrushev, Russian presidential aide and chairman of the Russian Maritime Board, said that after Finland and Sweden joined NATO, and against the background of the undermining of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines, the most important military-political task of the Russian Federation is the protection of the Baltic Sea, and new measures are being taken in this area.

According to him, the US and its allies in Europe are seeking to militarize the Baltic Sea. He stated that this is a traditional strategy for the West.
