OneTwoTrip travel planning service conducted a survey and found out which locations Russians consider ideal for New Year's Eve and vacation trips. The top 5 included Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Veliky Ustyug and Kaliningrad.

It turned out that more than half of Russians usually celebrate the main holiday of the year at home - this option was chosen by 61.2% of respondents. 20.6% have no established traditions, it all depends on circumstances or mood. 14.3% go traveling most often, with 7.5% of them going to some city in the Russian Federation, and 6.8% - abroad. The remaining 3.9% of respondents vacation outside the city.

Travelers consider Moscow to be the best location for a festive night: the capital gained 16.3% of votes. According to respondents, there is the most diverse and interesting leisure time there. In second place was St. Petersburg, which was chosen by 12.3%. The main argument for the city is the same as for Moscow: there is a lot of different entertainment there. The third line of the rating was taken by Sochi with a share of 7.8%. In the popular southern city, tourists are attracted by good weather and beautiful nature. Also many people called Veliky Ustyug (7.4% of votes) and Kaliningrad (5%) an excellent place to meet the New Year. Both cities were chosen for their interesting history.

The top three coincided with last year's top, but instead of Veliky Ustyug, Kazan was more often named then.

The majority of respondents have an excellent attitude to traveling during the New Year vacations. Thus, 84.7% said that this is the best time to travel. People's opinion has not changed much over the year. But the number of Russians who admit that they do not like to go anywhere in winter, increased by 17% and reached 10.2% (last year, 11.9% said so). The rest of the survey participants said that they would rather spend time with their families, and some do not go anywhere during the holidays because of high prices.

The survey showed that winter trips around their native country attract slightly more than half of respondents, or 50.1% - and this is slightly less than a year ago, when 53.5% of survey participants chose traveling around Russia. As for specific destinations, 38.9% in general do not care where to go, as long as they do not stay at home. Many, or 21.2% of travelers, would like to walk in large cities, and 18.2% like mountains and ski holidays. Trips with excursions were chosen by 18.2% of respondents, and 13.6% are ready to go to the cities of the Golden Ring.

The remaining 49.9% of travelers expressed the opinion that it is better to go abroad in winter. Compared to last year's survey, the share of those choosing vacations in other countries increased by 7%. Warm countries are the most attractive for winter vacations - 54.3% of respondents would like to go there. Many, or 21.4%, responded that they do not care where exactly to go. The rest are interested in destinations for excursion vacations (9.3%) and foreign ski resorts (5.8%). Separately note 8.9% of respondents who choose only countries that do not require visas.

Earlier, November 14, it was reported that the most budget travel option for the New Year may be a trip to Samara and Mineralnye Vody. And the most money Russians will spend if they go to Sochi and Kaliningrad. This was stated in the results of a study of the accommodation booking service "Avito Travels" and the railway and air ticket purchase service "Kupibilet".
