There were 570 traffic accidents in Russia over the weekend

Over the past weekend, 570 traffic accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 71 people were killed and 728 injured. 28 of the dead were pedestrians, 43 - drivers and passengers. This was reported to "Izvestia" on November 18 in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Over the past two days there were 33 accidents involving drunk drivers and 10 more accidents, in which drivers refused medical examination. In such accidents six people died, 57 more were injured.

With the participation of minors 66 accidents were registered, as a result of which 75 young road users were injured, including 19 pedestrians and 61 passengers. One child passenger died. Thus, in the Moscow region on a regional highway, a woman driver of a passenger car with less than two years of driving experience went off the road, after which the car overturned. Her 11-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat and wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, died as a result of the accident. The female driver and another passenger were hospitalized with injuries.

In Lipetsk, the driver of a passenger car hit a 10-year-old schoolgirl who was on the street unaccompanied by adults while driving in the yard. As a result of the accident, the girl received bodily injuries and after medical care was sent for outpatient treatment.

The traffic police urged drivers to transport children in accordance with the current safety rules. The life and health of young passengers depend on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of motorists on the road.

"We strongly recommend drivers to be especially careful and attentive when driving through yard areas, where there is a high probability of sudden appearance of children on the road. We also draw the attention of parents to the need to be more attentive to their children and try to ensure maximum safety for them. Do not let them go out alone, unsupervised, be sure to use light-reflecting elements on children's outer clothing and control their wearing", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of propaganda of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

Earlier in the day it was reported that fines for violation of a number of traffic rules may increase in Russia from January 1, 2025. For example, it is planned to change the fork of fines for speeding: instead of the current 500-5000 rubles to 750-7500 rubles (Art. 12.9 of the CAO), and for failure to comply with the requirements of road signs or markings - from 500-5000 rubles to 750-7500 rubles (Art. 12.16 of the CAO).
