Borrell says EU plans to discuss strikes deep into Russia

The head of the European Union (EU) diplomatic service, Josep Borrell, said at a meeting in Brussels on November 18 that the association's foreign and defense ministers would discuss lifting restrictions on strikes deep into Russia with European weapons.
He specified that the discussion will take place on November 18-19. To all this, he noted that he has always supported such strikes with the use of European weapons, but expressed uncertainty that a concrete decision would be made.
"There will be a discussion about it, and I hope that all ministers will reach an agreement on it, but if not, each country will do what it thinks is right," TASS news agency quoted Borrell as saying.
The day before, The New York Times reported that incumbent U.S. President Joe Biden authorized the use of U.S. long-range ATACMS missiles for strikes on Russian territory. At the same time, the presidential administration did not comment on these data.
American entrepreneur Ilon Musk responded to these reports by saying that "liberals love war". In addition, the son of US President-elect Donald Trump, Donald Trump - Jr. commenting on the situation, accused the American side of escalating the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the military-industrial complex wants to make sure it can start a war.
Later, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot also confirmed that the possibility of allowing Ukraine to strike Russian territories with French weapons is being studied.
Commenting on these discussions, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a possible authorization for Ukraine to use US long-range ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russia would be a qualitatively new round of tension. According to him, the Russian side drew attention to the publications where such authorization was reported with reference to unofficial sources.
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that Moscow 's position on such steps is clear to everyone, and the relevant signals voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin were considered by the collective West.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to conduct it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
