Soviet Il-2 fragments found by searchers near Pskov

On the territory of the Gdovsky district of the Pskov region, searchers during an expedition found fragments of the Soviet Il-2 attack aircraft. Details of the operation reports in the social network "VKontakte" search team "Unknown Soldier".

According to preliminary data, in 1944 the plane made an emergency landing in this area. It belonged to the 281st assault aviation Novgorod Red Banner Division.

Now specialists are engaged in evacuation of the airplane fragments. Studies are being conducted to find out what happened to the crew members, writes Pskov Newswire.

The searchers themselves plan to assemble one IL-2 from the fragments of several airplanes and then install it on the territory of the memorial complex "Grove of Memory". The agency explains that the planes of the 281st Air Assault Division flew combat missions in March 1944 from the Smuravyevo airfield.
