Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled on November 18 that Russian President Vladimir Putin had already clearly formulated Russia's position on the US missile strikes deep inside the country.

"The position of our president, the position of the Russian side has been extremely clearly and unambiguously formed by our head of state in his statement, which he made in St. Petersburg when he was there and spoke at a cultural forum," he said at a briefing.

Peskov recommended reading the Russian leader's words once again.

Earlier, on November 17, The New York Times reported that Biden had authorized Ukraine to use ATACMS to strike Russia. Le Figaro newspaper also wrote that following the United States, the French and British authorities made the same decision to strike Russia with long-range SCALP and Storm Shadow missiles, but removed this information the next day.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled that Putin had previously spoken about strikes on Russian territory with US long-range weapons. She recalled that the Russian leader said that such a thing would mean that NATO countries were "at war with Russia."

Back in September, Putin emphasized that facilitating Ukraine's use of weapons to strike deep into Russia would be perceived as direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. However, the West has recently been increasingly vocal about the need to reduce support for Kiev.
