The Kremlin advocates normalization of the situation in Abkhazia

Russia supports normalization of the situation in Abkhazia. This statement was made by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on November 18.

"We, of course, are in favor of the earliest normalization of the situation in the republic and would like this situation to remain in an absolutely constitutional way," he said at a briefing.

He also called bilateral relations between Russia and Abkhazia an important priority of the Russian foreign policy.

At the moment protests are taking place on the territory of Abkhazia. On November 11, eyewitnesses reported clashes near the building of the State Security Service of Abkhazia. Later, Abkhazian Prosecutor General Adgur Agrba said that operatives identified, detained and placed several people in the temporary detention center of the Interior Ministry, later they were released.

On November 15, a truck of protesters broke down the gates of the parliament fence and some protesters entered the territory. Abkhazian media noted that the opposition protesters were clashing with the police, throwing eggs and plastic bottles at law enforcers.

The same day Bzhania left the building of the Interior Ministry of the republic, from where he had previously addressed supporters, and went to Tamish.

On November 18th the Foreign Ministry of the republic said that the attempted coup d'état in Abkhazia could negatively affect the international image of Abkhazia, as well as affect relations with other countries. It was specified that state authorities were working in a normal mode.
