KHL launched a 3x3 hockey championship with the participation of eight teams


Continental Hockey League (KHL) announced the launch of the championship in the new format 3x3. This was announced on November 18 by the press service of the KHL on its official website.
"We are pleased to announce the launch of a new KHL project - an international 3x3 hockey league. <...> 3x3 hockey is gaining popularity, and its Olympic prospects are clearly visible. We are grateful to our partners - companies Fonbet and Winline - and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation for the opportunity to implement this project", - the words of the KHL President Alexei Morozov are transmitted by the press service.
It is noted that the new format of hockey 3x3 in the near future may become part of the program of the Winter Olympics. According to the material, the KHL was the first league in the world, launched such a format on the basis of professional hockey teams.
In the first season of the tournament will take part eight teams from three countries - Omsk "Avangard", Kazan "Ak Bars", Magnitogorsk "Metallurg", Ufa "Salavat Yulaev", Novosibirsk "Siberia" and Chelyabinsk "Traktor", as well as Astana "Barys" and Minsk "Dynamo".
The regular championship will last until June 2025, 312 matches will be played. According to its results, the three best teams from each division go to the superfinals, which consists of a group stage and playoffs. The group stage will be played in a single round-robin format, after which the top four teams will advance to the playoffs. The finals of the inaugural season are scheduled for July 13, 2025.
Earlier, on November 14, the KHL website reported that Yaroslavl hockey club Lokomotiv lost to CSKA Moscow with a score of 2-0 in the regular season match of the Fonbet - Continental Hockey League. KHL leader Lokomotiv lost for the first time in a month in a match at CSKA Arena in Moscow.
