The French newspaper Le Figaro, which on Sunday, November 17, published a piece saying that France and the UK, following the USA, had given Ukraine permission to strike deep into Russian territory using long-range missiles, removed all information about this from the article on its website on November 18.

Before that, there was a fragment in the text that "the French and British gave permission to strike deep into Russian territory using their Scalp/Storm Shadow missiles."

After the article was updated, it left only data citing The New York Times and Agence France-Presse that Ukraine had received permission to use long-range weapons from the United States.

Earlier, on November 17, US President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use US ATACMS long-range missiles to strike Russian territory. The Le Figaro newspaper added that following the USA, the French and British authorities made the same decision. They are referring to the SCALP and Storm Shadow long-range missiles produced in these countries, the newspaper said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously spoken about strikes on Russian territory with American long-range weapons. He said that such a thing would mean that NATO countries are "at war with Russia," the diplomat recalled.

Putin noted that it is the manufacturers of long-range missiles and those who supply Ukraine with these systems that make the so-called flight mission.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to conduct this operation was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
