Russian regions will receive additional about 5.5 billion rubles to fully implement all the planned federal programs to combat diabetes mellitus. This was announced by Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin on November 18.

He recalled that the program was launched by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Its tasks include early diagnosis of diseases, guaranteed provision of materials and medicines to citizens. Timely preventive work is also important.

"We will allocate about 5.5 billion rubles to Russian subjects to fulfill such tasks. Most of the funds are intended for the creation and development of regional endocrine centers and medical schools for people with this serious diagnosis, as well as, of course, to equip them with modern equipment," Mishustin pointed out at a meeting with deputy prime ministers.

The head of the government added that the state also has resources for the modernization of medical organizations that help residents of rural areas and remote territories. It is especially important to timely detect diabetes in children, Mishustin emphasized. He instructed Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova to keep this issue under control.

Earlier, on November 15, the director of the State Research Center "NMRC Endocrinology" of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, head of the Department of Personalized and Translational Medicine, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Natalia Mokrysheva reported at a press conference in the MRC "Izvestia" that the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in obesity increases six to seven times.

Before that, on November 13, a study in the scientific journal The Lancet reported that the number of diabetics in the world has recently passed the mark of 800 million people. According to experts, almost 450 million people are carriers of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with the majority not receiving proper treatment, which may lead to the development of other diseases in the future.

Earlier, on February 24, Golikova noted that over the past year in Russia medical preventive examinations helped to identify 1.8 times more patients with cancer and diabetes, as well as 1.4 times more cardiovascular diseases than in 2022.
