- Media reported on Erdogan's plans to propose freezing the conflict in Ukraine at the G20

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to voice an initiative to freeze the Ukrainian conflict along the front line at the G20 summit in Brazil. About it on November 18 writes Bloomberg agency, citing sources.
"On Monday at the meeting of G20 leaders in Rio de Janeiro, he (Erdogan. - Ed.) is going to present his proposal to freeze the conflict along the current [front] lines," the publication noted.
Media sources specified that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky's own "peace formula" (his term expired on May 20) is based on getting a clear path to NATO membership. However, the Turkish president wants to offer the Kiev authorities to postpone negotiations on Ukraine's NATO membership for at least 10 years as a "concession" to Russia.
Bloomberg notes that a growing number of Kiev's allies recognize that the Ukrainian president will have to compromise with Russia to end the conflict and are pushing him to consider negotiating.
"The sudden clamor for a settlement shows renewed insistence by Ukraine's allies that they are trying to get ahead of [ U.S. President-elect Donald] Trump's return [to the White House] and the possibility of a sharp reduction in support from the United States," the agency pointed out.
A day earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said he supported the start of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin despite criticism from NATO allies and Kiev. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the West should continue supporting Ukraine.
Before that, on 13 November, The Washington Post quoted European officials as saying that the EU was preparing for talks between Russia and Ukraine. According to this information, the talks may include territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees for Kiev.
In October, Putin reported that Erdogan's representative offered Ukraine to consider new ideas for a peaceful settlement of the conflict with Russia, but the Kiev authorities rejected them. Prior to that, Putin also noted that Ukraine did not want to sit down at the negotiating table because the end of the conflict would lead to the lifting of martial law and presidential elections.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
