"Megafon" has submitted to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia a notice on the execution of the order to cancel the surcharge for the use of communication services in Crimea and Sevastopol. This was reported on November 18 in the press service of the antimonopoly body.

"The company will cancel roaming no later than February 28, 2025. The FAS of Russia considered the implementation period technically conditioned. During the stay of subscribers on the territory of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol minutes, SMS and gigabytes will be spent from the package or paid under the standard terms of the tariff plan," - stated in a statement of the FAS.

Before that, in December 2021, a similar order of the agency has already complied with the cellular operator "T2 Mobile" (former Tele2). PJSC "Vimpelcom" ("Beeline") also announced the voluntary cancellation of the markup and bringing tariffs to the level of the home region from January 1, 2025. The FAS warned that the service staff continues to work on the phased harmonization of tariffs for communication services in travel within the Russian Federation to the level of the home region.

Earlier, on October 31, FAS ordered MTS and Megafon to stop charging additional fees to subscribers in Crimea. They noted that back in August they initiated proceedings against the "Big Three" operators for failure to comply with earlier warnings to cancel additional charges for their subscribers for the use of communication services in the territory of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

Before that, on October 3, the Federal Antimonopoly Service recognized MTS PJSC as having violated antimonopoly legislation. The press service of the body told Izvestia that the telecom operator was issued a prescription to eliminate violations. It was noted that in April and May 2024, MTS increased the cost of cellular communication services for more than 30 million subscribers by 8% on average.
