More and more of Kiev's allies recognize that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired on May 20) will have to compromise with Russia to end the conflict, and are pushing him to consider opportunities for negotiations. This was reported by Bloomberg on November 18, citing sources.

"Two European officials said there is a growing awareness of the fact that Zelensky will have to compromise with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," the material said.

According to the journalists' assessment, the Western calls for a settlement of the conflict indicate an attempt to get ahead of the entry into office of the winner of the US presidential election, Republican Donald Trump, as well as the possibility of a sharp reduction in Washington's aid to Kiev.

Earlier in the day, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said he supported the start of talks with Putin despite criticism from NATO allies and Kiev. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the West should continue supporting Ukraine.

Before that, on November 13, The Washington Post quoted European officials as saying that the EU was preparing for talks between Russia and Ukraine. According to this information, the negotiations may include territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees for Kiev.

Back in June, Putin named the conditions for negotiations on Ukraine. The Russian president said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces should be completely withdrawn from the territories of the DNR, LNR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions, and Kiev should give up the idea of joining NATO.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
