Xi Jinping said there is a prospect of strengthening China-Brazil relations

Beijing expects to strengthen Sino-Brazilian relations. Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the G20 summit on Nov. 17.

"At present, both sides should firmly grasp the opportunities of the times, continue to promote the synergy between the One Belt, One Road initiative and Brazil's development strategy, and constantly strengthen the strategic, comprehensive and innovative nature of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries," the Chinese leader said in a written statement, the text of which was circulated by China Central Television.

He also expressed confidence that the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro will be fruitful and leave a clear "Brazilian footprint" in history.

"I also look forward to working with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula to lead China-Brazil relations into a new 'golden 50 years' and build a more just and sustainable community with a common destiny," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Rio de Janeiro to attend the G20 summit.

The G20 summit will be held on November 18-19 in the capital of Brazil and will be dedicated to "building a just world and a sustainable planet." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head the Russian delegation at the summit.
