Servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces have repelled an attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the Korenevsky district of Kursk Region, as a result of which about 25 militants voluntarily surrendered. This was reported by Izvestia correspondent Emil Timashev on November 18.

"Now our troops are moving forward, and we are mostly not mining, but demining. We are going, inspecting. The enemy leaves a lot of mines, remotely mines," commented a sapper of the Airborne Troops (VDV) with the call sign Shama.

The serviceman showed the Izvestia correspondent an anti-personnel mine left by the AFU and explained that if infantry were walking through this area, the stepping man could have his leg blown off.

"When the magnetic field is violated by a person with a weapon or equipment, it reacts to this and an explosion occurs. For this purpose, we prepare long sticks with a charge and detonate it with an overhead charge," Shama noted.

The servicemen also pointed to a pile of debris from equipment at the site of the first US MaxxPro armored personnel carrier (APC) explosion in Korenevo.

"This is where the mine barrier was. And here just here a car exploded on a mine. Several pieces were triggered at once. The APC was driving at such a speed that it was dragged for another 150 meters," said a sapper with the call sign Balu.

The servicemen also added that it is not easy to detect explosive devices, as the detectors are constantly beeping due to the mass of shrapnel from FPV drones in Korenevsky district.

In addition, the Izvestiya correspondent found another American armored vehicle that had been blown up on a mine in the field: the bottom of the vehicle was torn up, and ammunition was scattered around it.

Earlier, on November 17, the Russian Defense Ministry told how medical units on motorized cross-country vehicles evacuate the wounded in the Kursk region. It is specified that highly passable buggies due to their small size and maneuverability allow to overcome forest areas, remaining virtually invisible to the enemy.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
