British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit of the Group of Twenty (G20) in Rio de Janeiro. BBC News reported on November 17.

"Working closely with the world's leading economies is vital to securing investment in the UK and creating the jobs needed to drive growth," Starmer said.

The U.K. government has said it seeks "stable and pragmatic engagement" with China.

On his way to Rio de Janeiro, Starmer told reporters that "strengthening support for Ukraine" was top of the agenda.

The meeting between the British Prime Minister and Xi Jinping will be the first face-to-face contact with the Chinese President since 2018.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Rio de Janeiro to attend the G20 summit.

Earlier, on November 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the West's attempts to "Ukrainianize the agenda" of the G20 summit had failed.

The G20 summit will be held on November 18-19 in the capital of Brazil and will be dedicated to "building a just world and a sustainable planet." The Russian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
