Mosvodokanal's digital twin will make it possible to eliminate leaks twice as fast

In Moscow, a digital twin of a water utility has been created - it will be able to determine the location of a leak with an accuracy of up to one meter in 10 minutes. As a result, the speed of eliminating accidents will double and reduce to 30-40 minutes. The development was created by a participant of the Moscow Innovation Cluster, as reported in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Development of Moscow.

The solution is based on artificial intelligence (AI). Its application allows to obtain high location accuracy and exclude false alarms and response to extraneous noises.

"In addition to leak response speed, we are working on improving the ensemble of neural networks to increase the accuracy of leak detection. In six months' time, we plan to release a system that will be able to detect leak volume by vibration. This will allow us to prioritize the repair of sites," said Alexey Frolov, founder of the company that developed the Biometriclabs solution.

Energy complexes, water supply networks and industrial enterprises annually incur heavy losses when accidents related to water leakage occur. Wherever there are pipes, tanks, equipment that uses water (turbines, pumps, radiators), there is a risk of leakage. The developed solution helps to detect leaks with an accuracy of one meter in maximum 10 minutes.

The sensors are attached to the pipes when they are laid and allow monitoring their condition around the clock. If there is even a small damage to the pipeline or tapping, the leaking liquid emits a characteristic sound, which is detected by acoustic sensors. The sound is recorded and transmitted wirelessly to a cloud server.

AI-based server software analyzes the recorded sounds from the two sensors and determines the location of the leak with an accuracy of 1 meter. The data is transmitted to the dispatcher's console. The developed solution will help to reduce the time of elimination of serious accidents at Moscow Vodokanal to 30-40 minutes.
