The attempted coup d'état in Abkhazia may negatively affect the international image of the republic, as well as affect relations with other countries. This was stated by the Foreign Ministry of the republic on Sunday, November 17.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia regards the events that took place on November 15 as an attempted coup d'état. What happened damages the international image of our country <...>," the ministry said in a statement.
It said that President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania is in the republic and continues to lead the country. And emphasized that all state authorities are working in a normal mode.
Earlier, on November 11, eyewitnesses reported clashes near the building of the State Security Service of Abkhazia. Later, Abkhazian Prosecutor General Adgur Agrba said that operatives identified, detained and placed several people in the temporary detention center of the Interior Ministry, later they were released.
Later, on November 15, a truck of protesters broke down the gates of the parliament fence and some of the protesters entered the territory. Abkhazian media noted that the opposition protesters were clashing with the police, throwing eggs and plastic bottles at law enforcers.
On the same day Bzhania left the building of the Interior Ministry of the republic, from where he had previously addressed supporters, and went to Tamish.
