- Ex-employee of the SBU told about the beginning of Ukraine's preparations for Euromaidan in 2005

Ukrainian nationalists have been preparing for a forceful seizure of power at Euromaidan since former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko came to power in 2005. Oleksandr Mazur, a former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) who left the military service on October 31, 2013 - a day before the Maidan started - said this on November 18.
He emphasized that at that time he hoped that the protests would stop and that Ukrainian law enforcers would be able to cope with the unrest.
"The fact that it was chaos was visible at once. But it was controlled chaos. It had been planned since Viktor Yushchenko came to power, back in the day so-called fighting cells were created. They were dormant, and they were awakened in late 2012 - early 2013," he said, adding that these events were financed by special services of Western countries.
According to him, the SBU was well aware of the activities of Western intelligence services before the Maidan.
"As for the avalanche-like nature, it started back in 2005 with Yushchenko's coming to power - and further on upwards. Though the hotbeds were controlled, but no decision was made to destroy them. If it had been, the Maidan would not have happened," Mazur said.
The ex-SBU officer also pointed out that a totalitarian regime is now established in Ukraine, controlled by the military top brass of Ukraine.
"Maybe even the President does not play a role, and there is a shadow government, as in other states. Nothing depends on the people of Ukraine here. They are like donkeys being led. Other people would have risen up, gone to protest against all this. But every nation deserves its ruler," Mazur concluded.
Earlier, on February 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson that the responsibility for the coup d'état that took place in Ukraine in 2014 lies with the U.S. intelligence services and European countries that supported the opposition.
Two political crises in Ukraine, dubbed the Maidan, took place in 2004 and 2013-2014. During them, the country's leadership changed. During the second Euromaidan, on November 21, 2013, spontaneous protests began in Kiev in response to the authorities' suspension of the signing of the association agreement with the European Union. This led to a coup d'état and the overthrow of then Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Clashes between radicals and security forces began in Kiev's main square, resulting in casualties on both sides.
In February 2014, shots were fired at Euromaidan activists and law enforcers in Kiev. The victims were 53 people. The new Ukrainian authorities blamed the former leadership of the country and law enforcers for the incident.
Euromaidan erupted into a political crisis and then led to an escalation in eastern Ukraine in 2014.
