Six cubs of amethyst python were born in the Moscow Zoo. This was reported on Sunday, November 17, by the director of the capital's zoo Svetlana Akulova.

According to her, the cubs are born brown in color with a yolk sac inside, which they feed on for the first months. They acquire their carpet pattern after several molts, the Moscow city news agency reports.

She noted that the first molt has already taken place, they are beginning to taste food. Feed them rodents, each baby is kept in its own terrarium, writes Life.ru. The sex of the cubs is not yet known. Their parents are a fairly mature couple, who have not had offspring for several years.

While the cubs and their parents are hidden from the eyes of visitors, notes "Moscow 24". Other snakes of this species are in the terrarium on the new territory of the zoo.

The length of such a snake can reach 6 meters, specifies RIAMO. This is the largest snake of Australia and New Guinea, listed in the international Red Book. Amethyst pythons are not poisonous. They spend most of their time in trees, hunting arboreal mammals and birds, reports IA Regnum. During hunting, these reptiles use vision and thermolocation.

On November 1, Akulova said that a baby squirrel saimiri was born in the Moscow Zoo. The cub weighed only 100 g at birth, while adults reach 600 g to 1.1 kg.
