The Russian Armed Forces prevented an attempt by the AFU to break out of the "cauldron" in the Kursk Region

Russian servicemen have prevented a breakthrough of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) near Olgovskaya Grove in Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on November 17.

"Today at 4 a.m. the enemy made an attempt in groups of 15-20 people to break through from the formed "cauldron"," the ministry said in a statement.

As a result, the grouping of troops "North" destroyed more than 80 nationalists. About 40 AFU fighters were wounded, some of them were abandoned by fellow soldiers. Another 24 servicemen were taken prisoner.

The Russian military is currently continuing to mop up the area and eliminate the remaining militants.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the AFU lost more than 33.2 thousand servicemen during the entire period of combat operations in the Kursk direction. In addition, during the day the Russian military destroyed a German-made Marder infantry fighting vehicle, four armored fighting vehicles and three enemy vehicles.

Ukrainian militants attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The operation to destroy the AFU continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
