German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck has been nominated as a candidate of the Green Party in early elections. This was reported by DW on its website on November 17.
"Federal Economy Minister Robert Habeck will be the Green Party's candidate for chancellor. Delegates elected him at the federal party congress in Wiesbaden", - stated in the publication.
It is noted that Habeck was the only candidate from the party.
On his intention to run for the post of Chancellor of the country from the "Greens" Habeck announced on November 8. According to polls conducted by the portal ARD Capital about the parliamentary elections in 2025, the "Greens" are ready to support only 12% of respondents.
On November 6, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that early elections would be held in the country. He noted that the latest when the elections could take place is the end of March 2025.
Earlier on November 6, Scholz had sent Finance Minister Christian Lindner to resign during a meeting at the Chancellery. It was specified that Lindner had proposed a new election and called on the parties to work together to achieve this. Scholz then rejected the Finance Minister's proposal and sent him to resign without commenting on his decision.
