Iran says it seeks peace and security

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, in a meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb in New York, expressed his desire for peace and security.
According to Pezeshkian, applying international norms and avoiding ambivalent behavior are the solution to many problems. He said Iran's approach to foreign policy aims at "détente, constructive engagement with the countries of the world, and the establishment of peace, stability and security."
"We believe that global peace and security will not be achieved unless all countries adhere to international conventions and stand together against polarization of the international system in case of aggression and aggression of one country against another country," ISNA news agency quoted him as saying.
He also added that dialog is needed to achieve common interests and called for an early end to the attacks on Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), on September 23, launched massive strikes on Shiite Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. One of them was struck in Beirut. The Israeli General Staff indicated that the country was conducting a pre-emptive operation to destroy the infrastructure of the Shiite organization. Earlier it was reported that the strikes claimed the lives of 492 people.
Prior to that, on September 22, the IDF reported that Lebanon fired more than 100 rockets at Israel, which were intercepted or fell in open terrain.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel, invaded border areas in the south, and took hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
