Physical education teacher Alexander Bakurov from Balaganskaya School No. 1 helped to detain a student who attacked his classmates with a hammer. This was reported by Igor Kobzev, Governor of the Irkutsk region, in his Telegram channel on September 23.

"Having learned about the incident in the locker room, I ran there. I saw a child who wanted to injure himself and prevented this situation," the teacher commented on the published video.

He noted that he was helped to navigate in this situation by the special training he received in college on courses for teachers and in the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation.

Earlier in the day it became known about the attack of an 8th grade student on his peers when they were changing for physical education. He broke into the locker room and started swinging a hammer. The blows came to those who were standing closer. As a result, three children were injured.

Irkutsk Region Education Minister Maxim Parfenov said he would hold a school parent meeting after the incident to help normalize the situation. He noted that psychologists from the Center for Prevention, Rehabilitation and Correction would be brought in to work with the children and their parents.
