Therapist Natalya Leontieva spoke about possible causes of migraine and ways to cope with it.

In a conversation with RuNews24.Ru on Monday, September 23, the doctor explained that migraine manifests itself as recurrent pain in the head, often localized on one side. The exact causes of migraine still remain unclear, but, according to her, studies indicate a possible connection with the dysfunction of cerebral blood vessels.

Among the causes may be an inherited predisposition. It also often manifests during menstruation, pregnancy or menopause, when hormone levels fluctuate. The trigger for migraine can be stress, as it leads to vasoconstriction and deterioration of blood supply to the brain.

A lack of good sleep, as well as a number of foods including chocolate, nuts, cheese, red wine and coffee can decrease the pain threshold and increase the likelihood of a migraine. In addition, strong odors, loud noises, bright lights, and changes in the weather can trigger a migraine.

To the symptoms of migraine, the doctor referred an intense headache, localized on one side of the head, accompanied by throbbing, nausea, sometimes vomiting. It is accepted to distinguish between episodic and chronic migraine. About the first can be said if the attacks occur less than 15 times a month. The frequency of attacks above this threshold indicates a chronic form of the disease.

"Migraine therapy consists of the use of medications (painkillers, triptans) and lifestyle correction (stress reduction, improved sleep quality, balanced diet)," Leontieva said.

She emphasized that it is necessary to visit a doctor for diagnosis and choice of treatment.

September 17, neurologist Maria Barbuhatti said that migraine is characterized by intense headache, which increases with physical activity. According to her, a person who does not treat migraine in any way may face complications. Patients are advised to identify their migraine triggers with the help of a headache diary, reports 360.ru.

On September 13, doctor-neurologist, psychoneurologist Olga Golubinskaya noted that due to migraine a person may experience headaches, increased sensitivity to sound and light. Most often the headache hurts on the right side, but once every six months the pain changes side, writes RT. The doctor added that migraine is also a psychosomatic condition.

In late August, Dr. Vladimir Popov, professor of the Department of Therapy with a course of pharmacology and pharmacy of the University of ROSBIOTECH, told in a conversation with NSN what products will help relieve a migraine attack. According to him, in this condition it is important to follow a proper diet, drink more fluids, and include in the diet vegetables and foods rich in magnesium and omega-3 fatty acids.
