Ground metro will be built in Ekaterinburg in 2025

In Ekaterinburg in 2025, construction of a railroad line from the Compressor Plant station to the Koltsovo Airport station will begin. The land for the new line was reserved by the city administration back in 2023.
The details were announced by the city's mayor Alexei Orlov, citing Ivan Kolesnikov, former head of the Svyazhskaya Railway and deputy director of Russian Railways. According to Orlov, cited by the Ura.ru news agency, the project is supported at the federal level, and construction of the "Novokoltsovsky route" should begin next year.
The length of the section "Compressor Plant" - "Koltsovo Airport" is 10 kilometers. There will be five stops on the route. It will become part of the Ekaterinburg Central Passenger Ring, which will also include the Yugo-Zapadny route and diametrical connections with Sredneuralsk, Berezovsky, Verkhnyaya Pyshma and other nearby cities.
In 2022, the mayor reported that it would cost at least 100 billion rubles to build a rail ring in Ekaterinburg and connect remote areas. However, according to the mayor, in order to increase the number of intracity trains, it is necessary to look for windows in the schedule, as there is a lot of freight transport in the city.
Earlier, on September 6, Vladislav Povolotsky, general director of the Center for Biometric Technologies, told Izvestia that they have started testing the technology of payment of fares in ground transport by biometrics. According to him, the priority is to launch the service on intercity flights. The CBT considers first of all the regions, where the passage in the subway by biometrics has already been realized or is being realized. This includes Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara, where it will appear by the end of 2024.
